Key amoungst the reasons why big companies fail include missing major new technology, such as the petrol engine and digital photography; becoming rigid and rules-based as they get bigger; having a short-term bonus-focus and following ‘the flavour of the month’. Gradually an innovation gap opens in front of them and, apparently in the twinkling of an eye, they are no longer on the upward path and join the 1% club instead.
